About this Fabric
Ajrakh is one of India's oldest textile crafts, originating in the Kutch region of Gujarat and Barmer in Rajasthan. The technique involves multiple rounds of resist printing and natural dyeing — a single piece may go through 14 to 16 steps before it is complete. Traditional Ajrakh uses natural dyes like indigo (blue), alizarin from madder root (red), and iron-black, applied over a resist paste of clay and gum. The result is a deeply saturated, symmetrical geometric pattern with rich colour depth. Authentic Ajrakh is washed in natural river water to fix and brighten colours. It is considered a heritage craft and is GI-tagged.
