About this Fabric
Bandhej (also called Bandhani) is a traditional Indian tie-and-dye technique practised in Rajasthan and Gujarat, particularly in Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kutch. The fabric is tightly hand-tied into tiny dot clusters using thread before dyeing. When the thread is removed, the tied areas remain undyed, creating a distinctive dotted or geometric pattern. A single piece of Bandhej may have thousands of hand-tied knots. Traditional Bandhej is done on cotton, chiffon, georgette, or gajji silk. The number of tie points, complexity of the pattern, and quality of the base fabric determine the price. Bandhej is a GI-tagged craft.
