About this Fabric
Kalamkari is an ancient Indian textile art form from Machilipatnam and Srikalahasti in Andhra Pradesh. The word 'Kalamkari' means 'work done with a pen (kalam)' — artisans use a bamboo pen dipped in natural dyes to draw intricate mythological scenes, floral patterns, and deity figures by hand. There are two distinct styles — Srikalahasti (fully hand-drawn) and Machilipatnam (block-printed). Both use natural dyes derived from plants and minerals. The fabric undergoes multiple treatment stages including bleaching, mordanting, painting, and washing. Kalamkari is a premium fabric category commanding higher price points due to its labour-intensive craft.

Care Instructions
Hand wash only in cold water with very mild soap. Do not machine wash, wring, or bleach. Dry flat in shade — avoid direct sunlight. Iron on reverse at low heat. Handle painted areas gently. Natural dyes may lighten gradually over many washes — this adds to the fabric's character.
